Transportation Expense Assistance, Grove Christian Outreach

One of the ministries of Smith Memorial Baptist Church is Grove Christian Outreach Center (GCOC) that was established in February of 2000 with a mission of ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of the poor and disadvantaged in the Grove area of James City County.

GCOC’s is a year round outreach program that includes financial assistance for gas vouchers and bus tickets to medical or social service appointments.  Assistance is provided on a case by case basis. 

Other assistance available is a food pantry, a weekly community food distribution, the distribution of USDA commodities, a clothes closet, financial assistance for evictions, utility cutoffs, and prescription medications. There are also seasonal programs that include “Backpacks for Kids”, a Back To School Celebration, “Shoe Box Gifts for Kids”, Christmas Blessing Room and holiday food baskets.
