Who We Are
The VA Ready Scholars program was created for people who are recently out of work due to the economic impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus). The VA Ready Scholars program is for people who want to gain access to new skills for in-demand jobs.
A VA Ready Scholar is someone who enrolls in and achieves a credential in approximately 30 select training programs offered through the FastForward program at one of Virginia’s Community Colleges.
VA Ready conducted research to identify in-demand occupations across three broad industry categories that are eligible for the program. These industry categories are Technology, Healthcare, and Select Trades.
VA Ready focuses on occupations with the most need for skilled workers, the skills that can be acquired through short-term programs, and programs that are already part of Virginia’s FastForward initiative.
Programs that begin after August 1, 2020 are eligible for VA Ready Scholars. Each community college offers programs for local in-demand jobs. Credential training programs vary by location.
