Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Center, Richmond
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders
Who We Are
The mission is to support, promote, and maintain the health, independence, quality of life, and productivity of Veterans with Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders (SCI&D). There are 2 basic types of facilities: SCI Center and SCI Primary Care Teams.
A SCI Center has a team of people who are experts at handling the problems that can happen with a spinal cord injury. Most veterans should be seen for an annual evaluation by doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, therapists, and others. An SCI Center is also called a "Hub"
SCI Primary Care Team: The Team is made up of at least one doctor, nurse, and social worker who helps with the everyday healthcare needs of veterans with a spinal cord injury or disorder. Veterans should receive routine care. SCI Primary Care Team is also called "Spokes".
