Who We Are
Open Doors, formerly Harrisonburg and Rockingham Thermal Shelter (HARTS), provides safe, temporary emergency shelter to the homeless population during extreme weather conditions. Open November through March for homeless who have no other option. Various sites at local faith communities will provide meals and a warm place to sleep. The Open Doors Shelter is open for 22 weeks a year from 6:30 pm to 7:00 am daily and has 40 beds available for men and women over the age of 18.
Each week the shelter is located at a different faith community. Call 540-705-1908 for current shelter locations. There are a total of 14 shelter locations, but over 30 faith communities participate. The program could not operate without the help and support of our community- individuals, businesses, civic organizations, and faith communities.
