Who We Are

Family Promise of Greater Roanoke provides shelter for families who are homeless and seeking permanent housing.  Shelter is for families only.   Help is provided to families by providing meals, full service day center, case management and referral to community resources, donations of furniture and household goods and transportation to and from the overnight shelter to the Family Center.  The Family Center is in Salem and offers showers, laundry facilities, a kitchen and area for belongings to be stored.  The Family Center is where a guest can look for employment or housing or child care and any other resources.

Provides full-time case management to assist families in addressing and overcoming causes of homelessness and creating goals of employment, housing, education in their return to independence.

Many congregations and organizations provide the actual housing of homeless families. A volunteer is onsite from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. Families are provided transportation to and from the host congregation to the Family Center daily.
