Who We Are

The Greensville/Emporia Department of Social Services offers Emergency Assistance.  The program provides very limited short term, limited financial assistance to families with children when a fire or other natural disaster has destroyed those things necessary for taking care of your family.

Emergency Assistance is also available if your family lost all income between December 1 and March 15 and the loss is due to severe weather or energy shortage lay-offs.

Emergency Assistance payments can be made for food, clothing, shelter, or the repair or replacement of essential household items.   The amount of assistance cannot be more than $500 and is limited to 30 consecutive days in any 12 month period.

Assistance is subject to the availability of funds. Call for information.

CommonHelp is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s fast and easy way to apply online for many Virginia social services assistance programs. Through a single online site, you can find out what assistance you might be eligible for and submit one application saving you time and effort.  Apply for Benefit Programs online at CommonHelp or by telephone by calling 1-855-635-4370.
