Who We Are
Arlington County Community Assistance Bureau (CAB) helps people find shelter, emergency food and other vital and community services available through the Arlington Department of Human Services. CAB can make referrals to all Arlington County shelters. CrisisLink (703) 527-4077 gives vital support to someone facing trauma, suicide, or other life crisis. Arlington has several emergency shelter programs:
- Doorways for Women and Families- Safehouse
- New Hope Housing - Residential Program Center
- Path Forward - Homeless Services Center
- Doorways for Women and Families - Freddie Mac Foundation Family Home
- Bridges to Independence, Sullivan House

The Emergency Winter Shelter usually opens around November 1st and provides seasonal winter shelter during the months of November through March for up to 50 persons. No self-referrals. Length of stay depends on compliance with a case management plan. Operated by Arlington Street People's Assistance Network (A-Span). Other facilities have been designated to handle overflow in the event of extremely severe weather. Location is 2020-A 14th Street North (Courthouse area).
The County's primary emergency shelter for single adults is at the County-owned Residential Program Center which contains 44 beds and located at 1554 Columbia Pike. The County also provides emergency shelter for battered and homeless women and their families through an agreement with Doorways for Women and Families (703) 228-0022. The program also helps individuals locate permanent housing and find jobs.
