Spinal Cord Injury Program
MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital
Who We Are
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is damage to the spinal cord that results from direct injury to the cord itself, or from indirect injury from damage to the bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels surrounding the spinal cord.
At the National Rehabilitation Hospital services for the treatment of spinal cord injuries and diseases are provided in an inpatient setting, day treatment, and outpatient services. Outpatient services are delivered through our a network of outpatient centers. Individualized patient plans provide the full scope of rehabilitative options needed to promote and maximize health, wellness, participation and return to the community.
The SCI Day Program is an alternative for those persons who are medically stable and no longer require around the clock nursing care but who can benefit from intensive treatment within a daily routine with minimal nursing support.
Physicians are all board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with SCI subspecialty certification and a number of our physical therapists have advanced clinical specialty certification in neurology.
