Who We Are
The Emergency Shelter is a 58-bed shelter available for an overnight stay for adults or families. Admission to the emergency shelter is between 4 pm and 7 pm.
The Emergency Shelter also offers lodging to transients stranded without funds for lodging, to people receiving out patient medical treatment in Charlottesville, or to people visiting hospitalized relatives and are without sufficient funds to secure lodging.
There is a shelter for homeless individuals for stays of several weeks or months at a time, depending on circumstances. There is no charge for the service. Residents are given free meals. Assistance is provided to the residents in finding employment, saving their money and locating suitable housing. Call or stop by to find if there is a vacancy.
Homeless Shelters: For those with no place to go or in need of emergency shelter, local Salvation Army homeless shelters provide a warm, safe place for men, women, and – whenever possible – families to stay. In cities where we do not operate homeless shelters, we offer financial assistance to cover emergency overnight housing costs or refer those facing housing and food insecurity to partner programs with emergency shelter services.
Breakfast at 7 am and dinner at 5:30 pm are available Monday through Friday to the public.
