Who We Are

Volunteers of America Chesapeake opens the Cold Weather Shelter; an emergency winter shelter serving up to 18 adults each night from November 15 to March 31 of each year. The program runs from 9 pm until 7 am.  Cold Weather Shelter clients receive a hot dinner every night, breakfast in the morning and a bag lunch to take with them.  They can also take a shower and wash their laundry.  Self-referrals are accepted; Loudoun residents are given preference.

VOA Chesapeake coordinates a variety of on-site services, which includes case management supports, mental health services, and counseling, and resources needed to move from homelessness to housing.  All residents are assisted by a case manager who helps them develop an individualized plan that will promote self-sufficient living.

This program is operated under contract with Loudoun County. VOA Chesapeake began operating the program February 2003.
