Dog Tag Inc. seeks to provide a transformative opportunity for veterans with disabilities, spouses, and caregivers by offering an education through Georgetown University and experiential learning in our small business venture, Dog Tag Bakery. Upon completion of the Dog Tag Inc. (DTI) program, transitioning veterans are business ready, competitive, and employable.
Education
The curriculum serves as an introduction to business from an academic perspective and consists of seven courses that are tailored to the small business focused goals of our fellows. Courses include accounting, management, communication, corporate finance, marketing, business policy, and entrepreneurship.
Dog Tag Inc. goes beyond education and job training to ensure our fellows are fully supported to achieve their goals. A supplemental lecture series is woven into our program featuring speakers that are leaders in their field, including seasoned entrepreneurs, non-profit leaders, and CEOs representing the full spectrum of private and public sector opportunities. These speakers offer their perspective and open their networks to our fellows, providing invaluable access to mentors.
Experiential Learning
Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown provides a vehicle to put their newly acquired skills into context and provides a source of income to offset the cost of the program. The storefront includes a state of the art bakery and kitchen as well as classroom space. We provide experiential learning by facilitating a working rotation through the storefront and non-profit positions. Fellows will have a chance to learn every aspect of a small business including operations, staff management, product creation, customer service, and marketing. Through a combination of shadowing and project management, our fellows are expected to complete tasks independently while communicating their needs and progress with management.
