Who We Are

The Hypothermia Prevention Program exists to ensure that no one has to sleep outside during the cold winter months. This program is an effort by Fairfax County, nonprofits and faith communities. Hypothermia happens when the body temperature drops below 95 degrees. If you see someone uncontrollably shivering, with memory loss, are disoriented, or incoherent, drowsy and with exhaustion, the problem could be hypothermia.  Call the county's non emergency police at 703-691-2131, TTY is 711.  A police officer will do a wellness check and offer to drive the individual to a hypothermia shelter site.
