Who We Are
Bridges to Independence (Bridges) operates Sullivan House, an emergency shelter to provide a temporary and last resort for individuals with little or no resources. Sullivan House has ten one and two bedroom apartments and can house approximately 14 families at a time. There are approximately 45 beds across the 10 separate apartments. Three months is the median length of stay in Sullivan House. It is a temporary solution for those with little or no resources.
While in residence individuals receive counseling and referral services to address unresolved personal or family problems. Clients deposit all of their wage and benefit earnings into an agency managed escrow account. Funds are allocated back to them based on a carefully managed budget.
Referrals to the shelter come from Arlington's emergency shelters (TACTS, the TACTS Safe house, the Residential Program Center and the ASPAN Winter shelter) and from various agencies within the Arlington Department of Human Services. Priority is given to families and battered women.
