Who We Are

Winter Shelter provides a safe refuge for unsheltered children, women, and men to prevent illness, injury, and even death due to harsh weather.  Carpenter coordinates this Winter Shelter for the City of Alexandria with the assistance of Alfred Street Baptist Church and the Church of St. Clements.  Winter Shelter is weather dependent for the months of November through April. For the 2020-2021 winter season, the Winter Shelter will be open everyday from December through March from 7 pm to 7 am at the Lee Center located at 1108 Jefferson St, Alexandria, VA 22314. The closest bus stops are 10A, 10B, DASH Bus 5, and DASH Bus 7. The shelter can be reached at (703) 477-5773.

Carpenter’s Shelter also provides basic services to Alexandria’s chronically homeless through the outreach center at David’s Place and operate the official winter shelter for the City of Alexandria.
