Who We Are

The Hand-Up Lodge (HUL) provides emergency shelter to men, women and children.  The short-term shelter provides a place for individuals and families to stay, eat and sleep. The main entry for homeless individuals in need of temporary housing is the Lynchburg Community Action Group (Lyn-CAG), at 915 Main Street, even though the shelter is located at 620 Fifth Street in Lynchburg.



The Hand-Up Lodge is a 28-bed facility and utilizes the services of many community agencies to assist clients.



Short-term housing for homeless men, women and children; assistance in securing employment and permanent housing; crisis counseling.

Intake Process
Please call the CHIA (Coordinated Homeless Intake and Access) office at (434) 455-5722 for intake information to shelter at The Hand Up Lodge.
Emergency Shelter Workers make contact with homeless individuals and families, serve as a resource for them, and make referrals to other systems.
