Who We Are
Individuals experiencing behavioral health and substance use crisis require immediate help. The Henrico Area Mental Health and Developmental Services offer Emergency Services response to critical situations 24-hours per day, seven days per week.

Services are directed toward children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing severe, acute symptoms of behavioral health or emotional disorder, including those with a risk of suicide, a risk of danger to others, and emergencies related to alcohol or drug abuse or addiction.
Types of situations requiring immediate intervention include:
- Acute suicidal situations;
- Violent behavior;
- Significant depression or anxiety;
- Alcohol or drug-related emergencies;
- Acute behavioral health symptoms.
Outpatient Emergency Services:
- Telephone Crisis Intervention;
- Face-to-face Crisis Intervention for individuals, couples, and families;
- Pre-screening for hospitalization.
When someone requires intensive treatment, staff may refer individuals to local private hospitals or state hospitals. Information about and referral to other community services are also provided.
