Who We Are

Adult Protective Services social workers investigate reports of suspected abuse, neglect (including self-neglect) and exploitation of vulnerable adults -- those 18 years and older with physical or mental disabilities who are incapacitated, and senior adults 60 and older. Service includes assessing and investigating reports of suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation. Case management services are provided. Individuals receiving adult protective services may live in their own home, a nursing home, assisted living facility, group home or hospital.

The program's goal is to lessen or alleviate the risk of abuse and neglect, including self-neglect, among seniors or adults who need protection. Individuals must be county residents or the incident must have occurred in the county in order to be eligible for this service.

For more information on the services available or to report suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation of an adult, please call our office. After hours or weekends, please call the 24-hour hotline at 1-888-832-3858.

Conference calls to interpreters available. The Virginia Relay telephone number to dial is 711. TTY available
