Event Description

A Play Designed to End Online Scams inspired by our fellow Virginians' True Stories will be presented on Wednesday, April 17th  at 7:30 pm at the Theater 101-VT in Blacksburg, Virginia.  You are invited.

Cyber scams are specific types of fraud committed online, designed to exploit age-associated vulnerabilities. They are perpetrated by offenders unknown to the victims, inciting fear, shame, and mental health problems, on top of the financial losses suffered. Individuals 60 and older are overrepresented among victims of cyber scams, both in number, and in total financial loss. Yet, most scams remain unreported.

This interactive theatre piece creates an immersive experience that involves audiences of all generations in the storytelling. Please join us and attend one or multiple performances to learn about scams!

Directed by Brooke McCarthy, Susanna Rinehart, and Mason Rosenthal. Based on the research of Katalin Parti and Pamela Teaster.

NOTE:  The audience will be asked to fill out a short research survey after the show.  Online and printed versions will be available.  Show running time will be 50-60 minutes, depending on the audience interaction.  Private shows are exclusively for residents and family members.  Public shows are for everyone, regardless of age.  the shows are free admittance and first come first seated basis.  It is recommended to come early to get your seat.  Due to space construction, latecomers might not be seated.

If you have any questions, email graduate research assistant, Victoria Bechtold at thisisnotascamtheater@gmail.com
