The Senate first passed a resolution in 1999 designating National Military Appreciation Month, which encourages U.S. citizens every May to observe the month in a symbol of unity, and honor the current and former members of the armed forces, including those who have died in the pursuit of freedom and peace.
Below are ten way to support our military and veterans:
#1 Display the American Flag on your home or business
#2 Engage media to highlight military and veterans events
#3 Send a care package to a soldier through USOCARES
#4 Encourage elected officials at all levels to recognize our military and veterans
#5 Veterans salute veterans! If you are one and you see one, render the proper salute!
#6 When offering military discounts, include all who serve and have served
#7 “Like” The National Military Appreciation Month on Facebook for Events in your area
#8 When you see a person in military uniform, shake their hand and thank them for their service
#9 May is also American Military History Month. Encourage schools to include military history curriculum in May
#10 Hire a Veteran
