Next Step Transitional Housing

St. Columba Ecumenical Ministries operates four transitional houses for homeless individuals.   A 6 month transitional housing program is set up for single, homeless adults. Two houses located in Norfolk are for women and two are for men. Clients coming into the program are provided with food, a 30-day bus pass, linens, and toiletries. The program, NEXT STEP, helps people move from homelessness to self-sufficient independent living.  Residents may remain in the program for up to 24 months. 

All services are provided free of charge and are available on a first come first served basis.  A Case manager oversees the houses and works with clients on goals relating to employment, education, substance abuse, mental illness, life skills, budgeting, house keeping, physical health, and community involvement.  Finally, residents are guided as they seek and establish their own apartments.
