"Veterans, globalized: veterans and their societies in international perspective” is the theme of the fourth Veterans in Society conference. While Americans naturally pay most attention to how veterans who returned from recent wars, particularly combat veterans, fit (or not) in US civilian society, they may overlook insights, interpretations, and lessons from veterans’ experiences in other countries and other times as well as the contributions and needs of veterans whose service was not on battlefields.
The 2018 Veterans in Society Conference encourages research and scholarly conversations across disciplines and eras that consider the interplay of veterans and their societies in transnational or international perspective. Intended audience is scholars and researchers whose research concerns veterans' interactions with civilian society; veterans and their families and those who serve and support veterans and their families. Conference hosted by Virginia Tech, Department of English, along with University Libraries. VETERANS: Cost for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is $75; Monday only or Tuesday only, cost is $25 and cost for Wednesday is $15. Standard Registration is $150 for all 3 days; $75 for only Monday or only Tuesday and $50 for only Wednesday. Student registration is free.
Registration deadline is March 19, 2018
Several of the events are open to the public but seats are limited and registration is required.
