Veterans & Athletes United (VAU) is an all-volunteer Veterans 501c3 non-profit organization. VAU is founded by combat veterans with disabilities and run by Veterans and caring professionals. In 2016 VAU was privileged to have a major impact on 485 disabled veterans, caregivers and family members through our various programs and retreats.
VAU offers accessible wellness retreats throughout the Mid-Atlantic region—from the beach to the mountains—bringing together vets, their families and caregivers for a much needed respite from their day-to-day challenges and struggles. For a list of upcoming retreats and how to register click here.
Veterans and Athletes United also hosts VetNet RVA. At VetNet RVA we are creating opportunities for Veterans through networking by connecting them with local resources for jobs, benefits, education, and family support. VetNet meets the 1st Tuesday of the month supporting local service members, Veterans, and family members by providing a welcome environment to network. VAU believes that the most effective way to help Veterans in Richmond is to plug them into local connections directly, rather than just giving them a phone number or email. It is through empowering our community of local Veterans, Veteran-owned businesses, local nonprofits, and resource providers that we create successful transitions for Veterans from the military back to civilian life. VAU also offers opportunities in the sports and recreation arena. We provide opportunities to Veterans with disabilities through a series of service partnerships and internal programs. These partnerships present our Veterans with athletic and recreational challenges to empower them to achieve athletic goals beyond their disabilities. Veterans can participate in: Group Marathon Training, Exercise Programs/Massage Therapy, Kayaking, Horseback Riding, Weapons Marksmanship, Skiing, Athletic Camps/Retreats, Golfing, Scuba Diving, Surfing and Body Boarding, Hunting, Skydiving, Jetpak Adventures, Fishing, Sailing, Rock Climbing, Yoga.
